Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Background: Suicide and substance use disorders (SUDs) are a worldwide public health problem.Suicide is the 17th leading cause of death globally and the fourth leading cause of death for men aged 15-29.Risk factors for suicide include SUDs, trauma and various psychiatric factors.Trauma increases the likelihood of drug use, as they are at times used as a coping mechanism for mental distress. The purpose was to examine men's experiences with SUDs and suicidal thoughts/attempts to increase understanding and knowledge of this phenomenon. The research method was the Vancouver School of Phenomenonology.Interviews with eight participants who had abused drugs and experienced suicidal thoughts/suicide attempts were conducted. Results show that trauma from childhood affected the mental well-being of the participants and that drugs were used as a coping mechanism. They experienced that treatment options could be improved, waiting lists were too long, and specialist assistance was costly and dysfunctional. Results were divided into four main themes, trauma and challenging experiences, use of substances, experience of suicidal thoughts and attempts and resources. Conclusions: The current mental health system does not seem to meet the needs of the participants of the study, treatment options in Iceland for this group may need to be improved to do so adequately.Society needs to respond diversely to this issue, its crucial to further strengthen prevention and health promotion for this group. There is a need to increase early childhood iv interventions, offer more services, which could reduce the prevalence of drug use and related suicides. The understanding and knowledge of professionals and society must increase regarding the strong relationship between SUDs and suicidality.Keeping in mind that SDUs often starts out as a coping mechanisms to deal with stress and trauma.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
