Les récentes données statistiques publiées par le Ministère de l'éducation du Québec (1999) indiquent que près de 31,0% des élèves québécois ne terminent pas leurs études secondaires. De nombreux facteurs tant personnels, sociaux qu'environnementaux ont été associés à l'élève décrocheur. Certains auteurs croient cependant qu'il est préférable de connaître la nature des facteurs associés lorsque les élèves fréquentent la classe et qu'ils présentent un risque potentiel de décrocher. L'étude tend à identifier les facteurs familiaux associés aux élèves à risque de décrochage scolaire. Cette recherche vise trois objectifs: identifier, parmi un ensemble de variables familiales telles les caractéristiques socio-démographiques et le fonctionnement de la famille, les facteurs associés au risque de décrochage scolaire chez des élèves de troisième année du secondaire; déterminer les facteurs familiaux qui prédisent le mieux le risque de décrochage scolaire chez les filles et les garçons; déterminer les facteurs familiaux qui prédisent le mieux le risque de décrochage scolaire chez les élèves de faible statut socio-économique et les élèves de statut socio-économique moyen-élevé."--Résumé abrégé par UMI
