Le but de notre étude est de comparer les acquis moraux des élèves de 5e secondaire ayant reçu l'enseignement moral et religieux catholique avec ceux des élèves ayant reçu l'enseignement moral. Trois approches de la morale ont été retenues aux fins de cette évaluation: la première est fondée sur le programme québécois d'enseignement moral de 2e cycle du secondaire; la seconde est fondée sur la théorie du développement moral élaborée par Lawrence Kohlberg; la troisième est fondée sur les intentions d'agir. Les résultats démontrent que les élèves ayant reçu l'enseignement moral obtiennent de meilleurs résultats sur le plan des connaissances morales, mais les élèves ayant reçu l'enseignement moral et religieux catholique obtiennent des résultats supérieurs sur le plan des intentions d'agir. Les deux groupes ont des résultats équivalents sur le plan du jugement moral. En outre, la recherche a permis de démontrer que certaines variables comme le genre de l'élève, le rendement scolaire général et la religiosité induisent des écarts de résultats plus considérables que l'enseignement reçu. On note une forte corrélation entre les acquis moraux et le rendement scolaire, et ce, pour les trois instruments utilisés. Nous concluons que les élèves ayant reçu l'enseignement religieux catholique ont des acquis moraux comparables aux élèves ayant reçu l'enseignement moral.
