Abstract
Différentes raisons poussent les étudiants à abandonner leurs études doctorales ou sont retardés dans leur cursus qui dure plus d’années que prévu. Plusieurs facteurs peuvent amener au prolongement des études au troisième cycle tel que les différentes caractéristiques sociodémographiques des étudiants, leur niveau antérieur d’éducation, et surtout l`aspect financier entourant les études. Le but de ce mémoire est de comprendre les différentes raisons qui peuvent amener au prolongement des études au troisième cycle. En utilisant la base de données ETD (enquête auprès des titulaires d’un doctorat) dirigée par Statistique Canada, nous avons effectué des régressions (MCO, modèle de durée et modèle de Poisson) pour répondre à la question de recherche. Nous remarquons que ce qui affecte le plus l’augmentation du nombre d’années d’étude est le fait de ne pas avoir accès aux bourses d’excellence (CRSNG, CRSH), le fait d’être dans les domaines de sciences humaines et sociales et le fait de ne pas avoir de maitrise avant d’entamer les études doctorales.
