Cette étude se veut donc une première dans la région du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean pour une foule de raisons. D'abord, il s'agit sans doute du plus important profil de la recherche jamais effectué jusqu'à maintenant : plus de 43 entreprises et 17 centres de recherches ont participé à l'élaboration de ce profil. De plus, l'implication importante de nombreux acteurs régionaux provenant de divers secteurs et des divers paliers de gouvernements, tant fédéral, provincial que régional, a permis la réalisation de cet exercice sans précédent. Enfin, l'étude va jusqu'à présenter des pistes d'orientation spécifiques à la R-D qui pourront éventuellement faire l'objet d'une concertation régionale élargie.
