Achtergrond: Het is belangrijk om cognitieve gevolgen van een CVA tijdig te identificeren. Dit maakt het mogelijk om in aangepaste ondersteuning te voorzien en, waar nodig, mantelzorgers en familieleden te betrekken bij het zorgproces. Aangezien het niet altijd haalbaar is om een uitgebreid neuropsychologisch onderzoek uit te voeren, is er behoefte aan een kort screeninginstrument voor deze populatie. Doel: In dit samenvattend artikel presenteren we de Nederlandstalige Oxford Cognitive Screen (OCS-NL), een domeinspecifieke cognitieve screen voor CVA-patiënten. Methode: De OCS-NL werd genormeerd in Vlaanderen aan de hand van 246 gezonde vrijwilligers. De validiteit en parallelvorm-betrouwbaarheid werden vervolgens onderzocht in 193 CVA-patiënten. Resultaten: Het normeringsonderzoek toonde aan dat de OCS-NL-prestaties samenhangen met leeftijd en dit gaf aanleiding tot het opstellen van leeftijd-gecorrigeerde afkappunten. De parallelvorm-betrouwbaarheid varieerde per subtest. Resultaten boven een afkappunt werden bij een hertest meestal bevestigd. Initiële resultaten onder een afkappunt werden bij een hertest niet altijd gerepliceerd, wat een indicatie vormt voor neuropsychologisch vervolgonderzoek, voornamelijk bij problemen in de executieve functies en visuoruimtelijke aandacht. Ons validatieonderzoek toonde aan dat de OCS-NL met leeftijd-gecorrigeerde afkappunten sensitiever is bij jongere en specifieker is bij oudere CVA-patiënten in vergelijking met de MoCA (Montreal Cognitive Assessment). Verder suggereerde het validatie-onderzoek dat de OCS-NL meer geschikt is voor linkerhemisferische CVA-patiënten dan de MoCA. Conclusie: Concluderend biedt de OCS-NL een waardevol hulpmiddel voor het identificeren van cognitieve beperkingen bij CVA-patiënten van elke leeftijd en linkerhemisferische patiënten.
