DMX Classic Hits Blend 2000 Sep 16 aircheck reproduction

Waaaaaaay back in the stone age, when MP3 players were in their infancy (and mostly CD-based), slabphones were something you wouldn't have seen outside of "Star Trek", and I was annoying teachers with my stereotypically crappy teenage slacker attitude and study habits, my year 11/12 social studies teacher was an early AT&T Digital Cable (formerly T¢I; now Commiecast) user and was recording music VHS tapes off the DMX block to play on the TV set in class. Yes, this tape (or rather the methodology behind it) directly inspired and made many of the entries you see in this library possible. This is a recreated version of a 2000 September 16 aircheck recording of pre-merger DMX's "Classic Hits Blend" stream, as heard in Evergreen High School classroom 306 between then and at least June 2002. At one point during my junior term I got hold of the original tape and copied it to a cassette tape, which had become unbearably worn throughout the following five or six years. I have tried to the best of my ability to recreate the recording down to the little "pop" at the beginning where I hit play on my VCR. A low-resolution transfer of the original muddy-sounding, 100-minute CrO2 cassette is included here for reference..... in this case, it was meant merely as a template the reproduction was based on. Yes, I really did transfer it at 22050 Hz. Facepalm. I had never intended to include it in any compilations, and certainly in 2011 when I did it, I hadn't foreseen uploading stuff to Archive, never mind the idea that anyone might find it useful as anything other than a template. I certainly didn't. The original VHS was two hours long, recorded in SP mode, which was sufficient for a single 80-minute class period. She had a number of such tapes stored in a cabinet, that she would rotate throughout the week for two periods a day. As I remember most were from Classic Hits Blend but a few others were from Maestro (classical) and there may have been a couple oldies tapes. Or not; I don't remember for certain. At this time DMX were broadcasting in stereo via satellite, but something about AT&T's setup in Vancouver, WA caused their ATSC-QAM music service to go out in... mono. Meanwhile, their legacy Scientific Atlanta CD-X NICAM simulcasts had been stereo since Columbia Cable days. Since she wasn't using CD-X service, mono audio was what ended up on the VHS master. And thus, in this reproduction. Maybe someday I'll slap together a stereo remake. The version of "Saved By Zero" Fixx (1h 32m 44s) on side 2 is proabably either a really obscure cover or a remix made of unobtanium. To date I have not located it on Youtube or anywhere other than the DMX tape. Now, to the best of my knowledge DMX were 100% original-artist, sourced entirely from commercial recordings, like Muzak of that era. They were not in the business of commissioning special/proprietary rerecordings or covers, as had been the practise decades earlier in syndicated easy listening radio services. The one you hear here was from the cassette, with serious amounts of processing applied to make it sound more-or-less acceptable.
