Abstract
Si le théâtre parle inévitablement de l’Autre, un artiste a-t-il pleine liberté pour aborder une autre culture que la sienne en création ? Voilà une des questions que se pose Geneviève Bélisle, qui partage ici les premières pistes de réflexion d’une recherche création explorant les thèmes de l’écriture dramatique et de l’appropriation culturelle. Elle le sait : elle aborde sans aucun doute un sujet excessivement sensible dans le milieu théâtral québécois (et dans bien d’autres sphères, il va sans dire). Pour réfléchir à cette question, elle met en relation les notions de mémoire, d'histoire et d'identité de manière ludique et fantaisiste tout en abordant une autre culture que la sienne. Intuitivement, elle a choisi de se pencher sur les Autochtones du Québec, plus particulièrement sur la culture des Mi’gmaq de la Gaspésie. Elle a en tête de tisser des liens entre des mémoires, d’embrasser l’Autre sans le heurter, mais surtout de parler d’humanité.
