Le Québec, comme l’ensemble du Canada, compte un vaste réseau de sentiers récréatifs. Les personnes qui désirent réaliser des activités sur ces sentiers ont souvent pour défi de trouver des sources d’information fiables pour leur besoin de planification. Selon le type d’activité, ou la région à visiter, les informations sont bien souvent incomplètes et dispersées à travers divers organismes. Dans cette optique, l’organisme Canada Hippique, à travers l’organisme québécois Cheval Québec, s’est intéressé au développement d’un système d’information géographique (SIG) unique permettant de rassembler les données des sentiers, de les rendre accessibles aux utilisateurs et de fournir des informations de rétroaction aux gestionnaires. Le présent travail repose sur le développement d’un nouveau schéma Geographic Markup Langage (GML), et d’un prototype de système d’Information géographique sur le Web (SIG Web) dédié à la gestion et à la diffusion des données géographiques relatives aux sentiers récréatifs canadiens. Cette recherche a comme mission de permettre la cartographie Web des données géospatiales des sentiers produits par les différents partenaires, mais aussi une meilleure interopérabilité des données et une plus grande pérennité du système créé. Le document présente comme résultat principal le nouveau schéma GML pour la gestion des données en lien avec les sentiers récréatifs, appelé Trail Geographic Markup Language(TrailGML), et la présentation d’un prototype de SIG Web pour la diffusion et l’affichage des données.
