Abstract
RESUMEN: Canadá es un país formado gracias a la migración y se caracteriza por su multilingüismo.En él existen dos comunidades lingüísticas oficiales (inglesa y francesa); además de convivir con las llamadas lenguas originarias, también coexiste con una notable pluralidad lingüística migratoria.El español, por tanto, se manifiesta en tres dimensiones distintas: como lengua materna inmigrante, como lengua de herencia y como lengua extranjera o internacional.Cada una de estas dimensiones presenta un desarrollo y evolución y distinto por lo que resulta ser indispensable un acercamiento a su situación general. IntroducciónEn este artículo me propongo presentar el trabajo de más de un año y medio de investigación sobre la situación general del español en Canadá y particularmente del español, lengua extranjera, en la provincia de Quebec.El español en Canadá presenta tres estatus diferentes: el español como lengua materna inmigrante, como lengua de herencia y como lengua extranjera, por lo que a lo largo de este artículo abordaremos cado uno de ellos.Cabe destacar que Canadá no cuenta con un sistema educativo federal, sino que cada provincia se encarga de regular esta actividad, hecho que no favorece, ni permite, contar con estadísticas nacionales sobre la enseñanza del español, inclusive, a nivel provincial es difícil encontrar con información concentrada oficialmente y publicada sobre el tema.Es por ello que agradecemos particularmente a todos los responsables de los centros de enseñanza del español que han suministrado la información necesaria para hacer posible este trabajo, a las distintas asociaciones encargadas de favorecer la enseñanza de la lengua española y a la Dirección de estadística del Ministerio de educación de Quebec.Conocer y comprender cómo esta lengua y su enseñanza han evolucionado ayudará a ser más conscientes de la situación actual, así como ayudará a clarificar ciertas tendencias de la planificación y de la política educativa en la enseñanza de lenguas segundas y extranjeras.
