Ce rapport propose de répondre à trois interrogations : 1) Quels sont les motifs des jeunes pour entreprendre des études universitaires? 2) Quels moyens utilisent-ils pour trouver du travail après la diplomation? 3) Quelle est l’importance qu’ils accordent à la correspondance formation/emploi? Nos analyses déclineront les réponses à ces questions selon une série de variables : niveau et domaine d’étude, genre, statut socio-économique des parents des diplômés. Nous utilisons la méthode de la « théorisation ancrée » appliquée à un corpus de 76 entretiens semi-dirigés, réalisés avec des diplômés universitaires de Montréal, Québec et Sherbrooke, entre janvier 2019 et février 2020, soit cinq ans après leur diplomation. L’échantillon comporte 49 femmes et 27 hommes âgés en moyenne de 33 ans au moment de l’entrevue. Nos résultats montrent que, majoritairement, les jeunes entreprennent des études par vocation, assignent une valeur relativement importante au diplôme pour trouver du travail, jugent importante la correspondance formation/emploi et utilisent principalement leur réseau informel et l’Internet dans leurs démarches pour accéder à un poste qui leur convient. Ces constats varient cependant selon le profil des diplômés en termes de niveau et domaine de formation et de genre et appartenance sociale.
