Abstract
Avez-vous déjà entendu parler des travaux de Robert Beichner? Ce pédagogue et professeur de physique de la North Carolina State University est en train de révolutionner la façon d’enseigner. L’article propose une incursion dans le mouvement Active Learning and 21st Century Classroom amorcé par Beichner. Un cours dans la veine du projet Scale-Up (on pourrait traduire ce nom par « Environnement d’apprentissage actif centré sur les étudiants des programmes de premier cycle ») qu’il a mené repose sur une conception socioconstructiviste de l’apprentissage et mise sur une approche collaborative. L’interaction et la collaboration sont au cœur de cette approche. Voilà pourquoi Beichner en est arrivé à revoir en profondeur l’aménagement physique de la classe. L’article présente cet aménagement de manière détaillé. Il s’intéresse aussi à la pédagogie propre à Scale-Up, s’attardant notamment à la manière de constituer les équipes. Cela fait plus de 10 ans que Beichner et son équipe misent sur Scale-Up. Ils ont mesuré et analysé les résultats de cette approche afin d’en évaluer l’efficacité. Les résultats avancés sont très prometteurs. Soulignons enfin que l’article propose aussi un aperçu des adaptations que l’on a faites de Scale-Up dans des collèges québécois.
