Abstract
Las bitácoras de trabajo de la Banda Militar de Alajuela contienen datos de diferentes épocas. Una de esas bitácoras denominada Libro de programas,1938-1946posee la información sobre el repertorio tocado durante la dirección del reconocido compositor costarricense Jesús Bonilla Chavarría. Los datos del Libro de programas fueron analizados estadísticamente para generar una reseña sobre los aportes artísticos y culturales de la Banda Militar de Alajuela y su director en el período comprendido entre el 20 de mayo de 1942 y el 30 de junio de 1946. El análisis, aunado al trabajo historiográfico y musicológico, permitió desarrollar un estudio integral sobre el contacto del público con la banda militar, entendiendo la dinámica artística y cultural en relación con los contextos históricos, políticos y socioculturales. Algunas entrevistas, diferentes documentos y los datos numéricos analizados, arrojaron información que confirma el posicionamiento de valores estéticos, la distribución de conocimiento musical, la consagración de autores, géneros musicales y piezas(repertorio), así como la cobertura geográfica de la agrupación. Todo eso, según los mecanismos accionados por quienes tuvieron cuotas de poder, como es el caso de Bonilla, que se convirtió en un verdadero baluarte de la divulgación de su obra y de otros autores nacionales e internacionales.
