Le recensement des mâles chanteurs de Chevêche d’Athéna, réalisé avec la technique de la repasse, a été mené entre 2005 et 2007 sur l’ensemble des principaux secteurs favorables à l’espèce du territoire Luberon Lure. Cette opération a permis de localiser 4 principaux noyaux de population situés respectivement dans le Pays d’Apt (secteur de suivi du PNR Luberon dans le cadre de l’« Observatoire national Inter-Parcs de la Chevêche d’Athéna »), la vallée de la Durance (plaine de Pertuis), le Pays d’Aigues et le Pays de Lure. Une population totale de 377 mâles chanteurs a ainsi été recensée avec une densité moyenne de 0,8 mâle chanteur/km2 pour l’ensemble du territoire prospecté. Les densités extrêmes observées varient entre 0,1 (Vallée de l’Encrème, Plateaux de Haute-Provence) et 1,5 mâles chanteurs/km2 (Vallée de la Durance – Pertuis).
