Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Pictured is the wreckage of the "United States" in 1919. The “United States” was built in 1909 by the Manitowoc Dry Dock Co. of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The steel propeller vessel experienced many ownership transfers from 1909 until 1946. From 1909 until 1916, she was first owned by the Indiana Transportation Co., of Chicago, Illinois. Ownership then transferred to the Crosby Transportation Co., of Milwaukee, WI. They owned her for a period of time in 1916, and then sold her to Colonel E.H.R. Green of New York, New York for $500,000. She was converted to a steam yacht by the Todd Shipyards Corporation. On August 21, 1919, the vessel struck rocks while anchoring in Buzzards Bay, Padanarum (New Bedford), Massachusetts, creating a hole in the ship. She filled with water within ten hours. She was raised on September 2, 1919, and towed to Tebo’s Basin in Brookly, NY; she was never again used by Colonel Green. In 1923, ownership transferred to the Peninsula & Northern Navigation Co. of Plainfield, New Jersey. She was rebuilt as a mail and passenger vessel and returned to the Great Lakes, transporting them between Marquette, Michigan and Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada. They owned her until 1927 when she was sold to Canadian company, Reid Towing & Wrecking Co., Ltd., of Sarnia, Ontario. She was subsequently re-registered as Canadian vessel 154476. In 1927, the vessel caught fire, and lay idle at Sarnia for two years. In 1929, the Canada Steamship Lines, Ltd. of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, attained ownership of the vessel. She was rebuilt as a freighter and renamed “Batiscan.” Ownership transferred in 1937 to Manseau Shipyard, Ltd., and again in 1938 to Marine Industries, Ltd., both of Sorel, Quebec. She was dropped from the Canadian List of Shipping in 1944, and scrapped in Sorel in 1946.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
