Introduzione: L’alessitimia, quale deficit della regolazione emotiva, gioca un ruolo importante nella condizione di obesità. Diversi studi hanno indagato la relazione tra alessitimia, valutata con la TAS-20, ed il BMI ottenendo risultati contrastanti. \nObiettivo: Indagare in un gruppo di soggetti obesi la relazione tra alessitimia e BMI utilizzando sia la TAS-20, strumento self-report, che la Toronto Structured Interviw for Alexithymia (TSIA), una intervista semistrutturata. L’ipotesi è che la TSIA sia uno strumento più adeguato per la valutazione dell’alessitima in questa popolazione clinica. \nMetodo: I soggetti sono stati reclutati in occasione della valutazione psicologica preliminare effettuata di routine per l’idoneità all’intervento di chirurgia bariatrica presso il Bariatric Center of Excellence di Latina. Sono stati somministrati: una scheda socio anamnestica, la TAS-20 e la TSIA. Inoltre, è stato annotato il BMI, calcolato in loco dal personale medico tramite la rilevazione del peso e dell’altezza di ogni paziente. \nRisultati: Sono stati reclutati 20 soggetti (7 uomini e 13 donne; età m=39,75; BMI m= 43,45). Le analisi dei dati mostrano delle differenze nella valutazione dell’alessitimia effettuate con i due strumenti. Nello specifico con la TSIA i soggetti reclutati ottengono un punteggio totale medio di 27,6 che risulta essere più alto di quello della popolazione italiana pari a 18,4. Al contrario, con l’utilizzo della TAS-20, i soggetti reclutati ottengono un punteggio totale medio di 38,25, più basso di quello della popolazione italiana pari a 44,7. \nConclusioni: Possiamo ipotizzare che per questa popolazione clinica sia più indicato l’utilizzo dell’intervista per l’alessitimia in quanto maggiormente in grado di cogliere le reali difficoltà emotive presentate. Le implicazioni cliniche e di ricerca saranno discusse.
