Le but de cette recherche est d'élaborer une démarche qui permet de choisir des savoirs essentiels à l'acquisition des compétences dans le programme de Soins infirmiers au cégep de Sherbrooke. Cette démarche s'appuie sur une référence valide. Elle sera par la suite mise à l'essai auprès d'enseignants ou d'enseignantes de Soins infirmers du cégep de Sherbrooke. Lors de l'évaluation de l'implantation du programme de Soins infirmiers, certaines problématiques ont été constatées dont l'ampleur des contenus disciplinaires. Le passage de la logique de contenus à la logique de compétences ne s'est pas totalement réalisé. Devant ces constats, il faut réfléchir à la notion de compétence et aux références qui guident et influencent le choix des contenus de cours. La recension des écrits démontre que c'est la didactique qui s'intéresse au rapport que l'enseignant ou l'enseignante a avec les savoirs à enseigner. Raisky et Loncle (1993) ont réalisé des travaux sur les références possibles dans des programmes d'études professionnelles. Ils ont revisité le triangle pédagogique et ils ont redéfini le pôle des savoirs à enseigner en trois nouveaux concepts : les situations professionnelles, les activités professionnelles et les savoirs professionnels. Selon eux, dans les programmes techniques, les disciplines doivent changer de référence et effectuer leurs choix de contenus en fonction de la profession.
