Abstract
Katalończycy i Quebecois to dwie wspólnoty uznające się za odrębne narody, które dążą do uzyskanie wolności, niepodległości co dla obu oznacza wyjście z kraju do którego administracyjnie przynależą. Katalonia już przez ponad trzy wieki próbuje poszerzyć obszary swojej niezależności, Quebec czyni to de facto dopiero od pół wieku. Do osiągnięcia tego samego celu obie zbiorowości wybrały trochę inne drogi. Quebecois najpierw organizowali referenda, a gdy te nie przyniosły wolności, to w ciągnących się już dziesięciolecia zmaganiach konstytucyjnych walczą o uzyskanie jak najszerszej autonomii dla prowincji, w tym o uznanie ich narodowej odrębności. Katalończycy wpierw dążyli do poszerzenia autonomii na satysfakcjonujące ich obszary, a gdy to nie przynosiło rezultatów sięgnęli po referenda. I wprawdzie, ze zgoła różnych powodów, żadna ze wspólnot nie odniosła spektakularnego referendalnego sukcesu, to dla obu wydarzenia te na długo będą źródłem siły w konsolidowaniu własnej zbiorowości i wzmacnianiu jej tożsamości.
