L’intégration des immigrants sur une nouvelle terre d’accueil passe inévitablement par leur capacité à communiquer efficacement, tant sur le plan socioculturel que professionnel. Au Québec, la bonne maîtrise du français est un prérequis pour s’intégrer. Ainsi, le gouvernement provincial propose le bénévolat aux immigrants récents, comme une stratégie d’intégration qui peut les aider à développer leurs compétences socioculturelles et linguistiques ainsi qu’à élargir leurs opportunités d’emploi. Cette recherche vise à décrire les interactions entre des immigrantes hispanophones ayant le statut de travailleuses qualifiées qui font du bénévolat et l’ensemble des « locaux francophones », pendant leur processus d’intégration au Québec. Plus spécifiquement, cette étude cherche à savoir comment les femmes immigrantes avec le statut de travailleuses qualifiées gèrent l’écart entre leur statut professionnel et leur manque de connaissances linguistiques en français. Pour ce faire, l’étude utilise la théorie dialectique relationnelle de Baxter et Montgomery (1996) pour explorer les forces « tirer-pousser » apparemment contradictoires qui surgissent dans toute relation interpersonnelle : le désir simultané d’intégration et de séparation ; la stabilité et le changement ; et l’expression et la non-expression. Les données ont été recueillies à l’aide d’entretiens semi-dirigés et de récits de vie abordant leur projet migratoire, leur parcours au Québec et la nature des interactions touchant des questions d’identité culturelle.
