On constate aussi une forte disparité régionale à l’intérieur du Québec dans l’application de la mesure. En particulier, il y a des différences considérables quant à la durée des sursis, au type de mesure prononcé et aux conditions imposées.\n\nSi cette recherche donne des informations pertinentes sur l’application du sursis au Québec et peut aider les décideurs à voir l’impact de décisions judiciaires et administratives, elle souligne aussi l’importance d’avoir de telles informations sur une base permanente. Il est essentiel d’avoir continuellement une bonne connaissance du fonctionnement du système pénal et des pratiques correctionnelles. Cette connaissance ne doit pas seulement être produite par des recherches ponctuelles mais les systèmes de gestion des diverses agences doivent pouvoir fournir régulièrement des informations sur leurs opérations. \n\nEn ce qui concerne le sursis, il est impératif que certaines informations, telles les conditions imposées, les manquements aux conditions, les recommandations des agents et les décisions des tribunaux soient saisies systématiquement dans la base de données DACOR et soient analysées continuellement. Ce sont des conditions essentielles pour savoir ce qui se passe, pour prendre des décisions éclairées et tenter, autant que faire se peut, d’améliorer l’administration de la justice pénale.
