Abstract
Le Québec de l'entre-deux-guerres vit un bouleversement au niveau du savoir. Les sciences sociales sont appelées en grand renfort pour expliquer les nouveaux phénomènes qui se produisent à l'échelle nationale et internationale. À la faveur des problèmes socio-politiques, la science économique acquiert une place particulièrement importante.Le mémoire qui suit cherche dans un premier temps à identifier dans quel cadre institutionnel se développe la science économique et quels sont ses principaux acteurs. Ces pionniers de la science économique évoluent en grande partie autour de l'École des Hautes Études commerciales de Montréal et baignent dans une atmosphère très nationaliste. Ce nationalisme se traduit souvent par une francophilie qui amène la science économique canadienne-française à se construire sur le modèle français. Pourtant, loin d'accepter l'ensemble des idées françaises, c'est à un modèle conservateur fortement influencé par la doctrine sociale catholique que s'identifient les différents économistes canadiens-français. Si la doctrine sociale catholique donne un certain idéalisme à la profession économiste, le nationalisme lui donne un côté plus pragmatique. La science économique canadienne-française va chercher à concilier science et volonté de transformer la situation vécue par les Canadiens-français et ainsi emprunter un chemin particulier qui navigue entre son idéal culturel européen et sa réalité économique nord-américaine.
