Abstract
Vuorovaikutukset jään, meren ja ilmakehän välillä paikallisesti kaakkois-Atlantilla ovat merkittäviä niiden aina globaaliin ilmastoon asti aiheuttamiensa vaikutusten vuoksi. Meren pintakerroksen olosuhteita ja niiden yhteyttä ilmastoon vaikuttaviin tekijöihin myöhäisholoseenin aikana Newfoundlandin kaakkoisrannikolla, Placentian lahdella, tutkittiin käyttäen piileviä paleobioindikaattoreina. Piilevälajisto indikoi kohtalaisia olosuhteita aikavälille 5.8–4.75 ka BP. Ajanjaksoa välillä 4.75 ja 2 ka BP dominoi atlanttinen vaikutus lukuun ottamatta kylmää pulssia 3.5 ka BP paikkeilla. Ajanjaksolla välillä 2 ja 0.4 ka BP arktinen vaikutus kasvoi huomattavasti. Sisemmän Labradorin virran voimakkuus näyttää olevan tekijä, joka eniten vaikuttaa olosuhteisiin Placentian lahdella. Virran voimakkuus seurasi sekä indeksiä, joka kuvaa pohjois-Atlantin oskillaation (NAO-indeksi) voimakkuutta, että Atlantin valtameren etelä-pohjoissuuntaisen pystykiertovirtauksen (AMOC) voimakkuutta ollen voimakkain, kun NAO-indeksi oli positiivinen ja AMOC oli voimakas. Piilevälajiston indikoimat kylmät ajanjaksot osuivat yhteen ajanjaksojen kanssa, jolloin NAO-indeksi oli positiivinen. Sulaveden ja merijään määrä sisemmässä Labradorin virrassa näyttää riippuvan olosuhteista Baffinin lahdella. Arktinen oskillaatio sekä Maan rataparametrien muutoksista johtuvat holoseenin lämpötilaoptimi, neoglasiaalinen kylmeneminen ja Rooman lämpökausi vaikuttivat olosuhteisiin Baffinin lahdella myöhäisholoseenilla. Lisäksi AMOC aiheutti joko lisää kylmenemistä tai sulamista alueella riippuen sen kulloisesta voimakkuudesta. Suuri muutos, joka tuloksissa tapahtui 2 ka BP, osuu ajallisesti yhteen muutoksen kanssa, joka on havaittu Labradorin merellä syvän veden muodostuksessa.
