Abstract
A queda é um indicador de risco para área da saúde e está intrinsecamente associada à fragilidade. A fragilidade é uma síndrome multidimensional que acomete indivíduos idosos e vulneráveis, acarretando uma maior incapacidade funcional, maior número de quedas e hospitalização. Ambas são consideradas síndromes geriátricas e possuem impactos negativos sobre a qualidade de vida das pessoas mais velhas. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a prevalência de quedas entre os indivíduos frágeis fisicamente ativos. Trata-se de um estudo transversal. A amostra foi recrutada com base no total de participantes do Programa Sesc Maturidade Ativa da região metropolitana do Rio Grande do Sul. Os dados foram coletados mediante questionário sociodemográfico, indicadores de saúde e a escala de fragilidade de Edmonton em forma de entrevista individual. Os dados foram analisados em média e desvio padrão para variáveis contínuas e medianas e percentis (25 – 75) para as variáveis categóricas. Para analisar a razão de prevalência nos indivíduos frágeis e ativos foi utilizada regressão logística binária. Os dados foram considerados com significância estatística quando p<0,05. A média de idade foi de 68,1 anos (±7,1 anos) e predominância do sexo feminino 92% (88,9 – 94,6). Dentre os indivíduos fisicamente ativos com diagnóstico de fragilidade (11,2%), 82,6% apresentaram histórico de quedas no último ano e 41,7% sofreram três ou mais quedas. Nosso estudo demonstrou que indivíduos frágeis têm 2,15 (1,27 – 3,67) mais chance de cair quando comparados com indivíduos não frágeis (RP[IC95%]) (p<0,004). Avaliar o risco de quedas nos indivíduos em estado de fragilidade independente de sua condição ativa é fundamental para minimizá-la, proporcionando oportunidades para ações de proteção e redução dos riscos aos indivíduos e sociedade. Dentro deste contexto, a educação e promoção da saúde nesta população poderá fornecer um envelhecimento bem-sucedido repercutindo em mudanças biológicas, psicológicas, cognitivas e sociais.
