rothkamm 's FB01 introduces the amazing synthesizer music of supermodernism. Recorded in full-motion stereophonic microsound, FB01 sweetens rothkamm 's complex experimentation with the crowd-pleasing sleight of "head music". Over 6 extended passages, frequency-modulated sine waves burble, shimmer, surge, swoop and speaker-pan in hazily melodic and nebulous shapes. FB01 is the consummate headphone album, a crafty and cosmic delight guaranteed to captivate all open minds. rothkamm 's FBO1 investigates the realms of pure electronic music; synthesized only through mathematical operations on sine waves, the most fundamental building blocks of sound. A nod to the first pioneers of electronic music, notably the Forbidden Planet work of Carlos & Bebe Barron , Vladimir Ussachevsky 's Metamorphosis , and the electronic serialism of Herbert Eimert 's Glockenspiel and Franco Evangelisti 's Incontri di fasce sonore that emerged in the 50s from the WDR studios in Cologne. rothkamm 's aesthetic continues a utopian project: Like Raymond Scott 's 1958 modifications of a Theremin, which led to his 'Clavivox' synthesizer, rothkamm 's 2002 'IFORMM' system takes the commercial sound module FB01 and transforms it into a enigmatic new form of a sound-sculpting instrument. rothkamm 's FB01 dramatizes a philosophical proposal: In the age of DJ culture where the mere public consumption of music rates as art but file sharing is declared a crime, any Back to the Future ism that consciously composes a different raison d'etre than that of the current monolithic and expected cultural practice is deemed underground , worthy of an economic death sentence and can therefore only exist in the pure realm of a 21st century psychedelia: supermodernism . rothkamm 's FBO1 was recorded between 2002 and 2003 in Hollywood, California and manufactured in Canada in a limited edition of 500.
