Abstract
Cu, Cu-MoS2, and Cu-MoS2-WC coatings were fabricated by cold spray using admixed feedstocks and/or dual feeding system.To pursue an ideal spraying condition, how MoS2 and Cu behaved for cold spray was examined.It was found deposition efficiency of Cu reduced dramatically due to the presence of MoS2 while MoS2 deposition was improved by co-spraying with Cu.This suggests MoS2 increased the critical velocity of Cu deposition.Therefore, strategies for reducing critical velocity were applied and they were using a low oxygen content Cu powder and preheating the substrates.Once the optimized spraying parameters were selected, the Cu-MoS2-WC coatings were deposited at the identical condition.The coatings were then characterized in terms of microstructural evolution, recovery of MoS2 and WC, and Vickers hardness.The microstructural evolution of pure Cu was investigated carefully and served as the reference to the further sliding-and fretting-induced microstructural modification.The coatings were subjected to reciprocating sliding wear tests in dry air using a custom-built tribometer equipped with an alumina ball as the counterface.A small amount of MoS2 (1.8 wt.%) Contribution of the authorsThis is a manuscript-based thesis containing three publications and two
