Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Recent years have seen the emergence of critical studies pro-duced by third- generation Displaced Persons (hereafter DPs),questioning ethno-nationalist historical narrations, hegemonicin the community. Yet, in the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada, suchstudies have been absent. Kassandra Luciuk’s current study iswritten by someone raised in the political elite of the Ukrainianethno-nationalist community, in dialogue with and challeng-ing the historical memory that her parents dedicated their livesto promote. Her study reads like a Bildungsroman of a youngperson whose eyes were opened to an ostracized rivalling leftistcommunity tradition. In the process, she started to question theNationalists monopoly of defining what it means to be Ukrainian inCanada. Her still-unpublished 2021 dissertation sheds new lighton ultra-nationalist political violence in Canada and the central roleof Ukrainian Nationalists in establishing normative multiculturalismin Canada. The Nationalist hegemony in the community was es-tablished through the erection of monuments, a politicized folklore, and the development of an elaborate victimization narrative ofSoviet genocide abroad, Canadian concentration camps and “lin-guistic genocide” at home. Through claiming a share for GalicianUkrainians in the settler colonialist project, Ukrainians insisted on aspecial status as a “founding people” on the Canadian prairies

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
