El Juliol de 2009 Ryanair anunciava una nova forma de viatjar. Aquesta idea revolucionària consistia en uns nous seients en els quals la gent viatjava de peu. De la mateixa manera oferia els resultats d’una enquesta via online amb la opinió i la disposició dels passatgers a volar d’aquesta nova forma. Amb aquesta notícia Ryanair reafirmava un cop més que les companyies de baix cost són les més predisposades a innovar en el món de l’aviació, amb l’objectiu principal d’augmentar els guanys. A partir d’aquí neix la base d’aquest estudi, que pretén analitzar la viabilitat d’aquests seients verticals i les noves configuracions de la cabina de passatgers que se’n deriven. Els models d’aeronaus que s’han escollit per dur a terme aquest projecte són l’Airbus 320 i el Boeing 737 perquè són els avions més utilitzats en vols curts. En aquest document es tenen en compte tots aquells aspectes que es veuen afectats de manera directa o indirecta amb la implantació dels nous seients, com són: acceleracions i desacceleracions de l’avió, comportament en les diferents fases de vol, consum de combustible, procés i normativa per la seva certificació, reestructuració de la cabina de passatgers, modificacions a l’aeronau, beneficis i costos que se’n deriven i opinió dels passatgers. Les conclusions extretes després de realitzar l’estudi d’aquests seients les podem separar en dos grups principals, les tècniques i les socioeconòmiques. Pel que fa a nivell tècnic no hi ha cap impediment rellevant per a la seva viabilitat. A nivell socioeconòmic l’èxit de la nova proposta dependrà de l’acceptació per part dels passatgers i de que els beneficis siguin majors que els costos totals derivats de la implementació dels nous seients.
