Abstract

-- ABSTRACT : Macroalgae strandings are natural phenomena observed in marine ecosystems, influenced by various factors such as ocean currents and weather conditions. Approximately 500,000 tons of seaweed wash up each year on some beaches on the Gaspé Peninsula and there are very few policies and programs for their collection and rapid management. In the future, the accumulation of seaweed washed up along the coast could be greatly amplified by eutrophication of coastal waters, increased surface temperatures and increased turbidity. Given the interest of several economic players in the exploitation of this biomass, this study aims to evaluate the profitability of the valorization of seaweed stranded in the Bas-Saint-Laurent into pellet products for agriculture and animal feed. The method used was costbenefit analysis and was based on a duopolistic market scenario where two companies share the same resource in the same proportion. Considering assumptions, it has been shown that for a representative company, the project is financially profitable for each scenario studied. However, the integration of externalities related to the implementation of the algae valorization project leads to a decrease in the various profitability indicators. Despite this reduction, the project is economically attractive with a positive net present value (NPV), a cost-benefit ratio (RCB) above 1 and a high return on investment (ROI). Then, a sensitivity analysis was carried out to assess the project's profitability through different market assumptions. First, considering a scenario where five companies exploit the stranded algae, it was found that the transformation of algae into pellets remains profitable in the normal, pessimistic and optimistic scenarios. On the other hand, in a monopoly context, where a single company monopolizes the exploitation of algae, a significant improvement in profitability indicators is observed. The study concludes that, whether in an oligopoly, duopoly or monopoly framework, the project to reclaim seaweed stranded in the Bas-Saint-Laurent remains financially and economically viable for all the scenarios studied. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en anglais : net present value, stranded algae, cost-benefit analysis, monopoly, oligopoly, duopoly.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
