Abstract
TIIVISTELMÄ Solla, Heli. 2016. Kansalaisopistojen opettajien ammatillinen identiteetti. Aikuiskasvatustieteen pro gradu – tutkielma. Jyväskylän yliopisto. Kasvatustieteiden laitos. 76 sivua. Tämän tutkimuksen aiheena on kansalaisopistojen opettajien ammatillinen identiteetti. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on esitellä kansalaisopistojen opettajien ammatillista identiteettiä keskittyen identiteetin kuvailuun ajallisella jatkumolla ja sen muodostumisen kannalta merkittäviin tekijöihin. Tutkimusaihe on tärkeä, koska kansalaisopettajien ammatillista identiteettiä on tutkittu melko vähän. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin teemahaastatteluilla, ja tutkimusta varten haastateltiin yhdeksää kansalaisopistoissa työskentelevää opettajaa. Aineiston analysoinnissa hyödynnettiin narratiivista tutkimusotetta tuoden esille haastateltavien omat kertomukset ja kokemukset. Tutkimustulosten perusteella kansalaisopiston opettajien identiteetti rakentuu ensisijassa asiantuntijuuden, opetettavan aineen ja sosiaalisten taitojen varaan. Sosiaalisia taitoja tarvitaan erityisesti opiskelijoiden ja opetusryhmien kanssa toimiessa, ei niinkään työtovereiden kanssa. Perinteisesti työyhteisöllä on merkitystä ammatillisen identiteetin muokkautumisessa ja neuvotteluissa, mutta tässä tutkimuksessa se ei osoittautunut merkittäväksi ammatillista identiteettiä muovaavaksi tekijäksi. Työhön liittyvän määräaikaisuuden ja epävarmuuden voidaan nähdä estävän perinteisen vahvan ammatillisen identiteetin, mutta toisaalta se luo edellytyksiä yrittäjämäiselle yleisiä työelämätaitoja edistävälle uudenlaiselle ammatilliselle identiteetille. Tuloksia voidaan hyödyntää esimerkiksi kansalaisopistojen henkilöstön ja vapaan sivistystyön kehitystehtävissä.
