Abstract
Bien que le Canada figure parmi les pays développés les moins touchés par la maternité à l’adolescence, il y a encore des adolescentes canadiennes qui vivent cette expérience. Malgré la diversité des études qui ont été menées sur ce phénomène, l’analyse des facteurs socioculturels susceptibles d’influencer cet évènement demeure peu documentée. La présente étude se concentre précisément sur cet aspect. Les résultats des analyses du modèle de régression de Poisson réalisées à partir des données de l’Enquête sociale générale (ESG) montrent que la maternité à l’adolescence est influencée par le niveau de l’éducation de la mère de l’adolescente, par le type de famille et la croyance religieuse des adolescentes. D’autres facteurs, tels que la cohorte de naissances, la situation conjugale de l’adolescente et l’âge au départ du domicile familial, jouent également un rôle important. De plus, nous constatons que ces associations se maintiennent même lorsque nous considérons l’occurrence d’un second enfant pour les adolescentes âgées de 15 à 20 ans. <br /><br /> Although Canada is among the developed countries least affected by teenage motherhood, there are still Canadian teenagers who go through this experience. Despite the diversity of studies that have been carried out on this phenomenon, the analysis of sociocultural factors likely to influence this event remains poorly documented. The present study focuses precisely on this aspect. The results of the analyzes of the Poisson regression model carried out using data from the General Social Survey (GSS), show that motherhood during adolescence is influenced by the level of education of the adolescent's mother, by the family type (single-parent family) and religious belief of adolescents. Other factors, such as the birth cohort, marital status of the adolescent and age at leaving home also play an important role. Furthermore, we observe that these associations persist even when considering the occurrence of a second child for adolescents aged 15 to 20.
