La prévention des retards cognitifs et langagiers au préscolaire implique des interventions et des programmes éducatifs agissant spécifiquement sur ces retards. Des recherches montrent que le défaut d’intégration intermodalitaire chez l’enfant, c’est-à-dire sa difficulté à traiter plusieurs stimuli sensoriels à la fois, favoriserait ces retards cognitifs et langagiers (Habib, Lardy, Desiles, Commeiras, Chobert et Besson, 2013 ; Hairston, Burdette, Flowers, Wood et Wallace, 2005 ; Wallace, Roberson, Hairston, Stein, Vaughan et Schirillo, 2004). En ce sens, nous savons que les interventions musicales agissent de façon multisensorielle chez les enfants et auraient ainsi le potentiel d’agir de façon positive sur ces retards. Notre recherche vise donc à évaluer un programme musical conçu pour le primaire appelé Mélodys. Après notre adaptation de ce dernier pour le préscolaire, le programme est devenu Éveil Mélodys. Notre projet-pilote vise à mesurer l’effet potentiel d’interventions musicales Éveil Mélodys sur le développement du langage oral (Vocabulaire), de la musicalité et des fonctions exécutives d’enfants tout-venant du préscolaire. Nous avons soumis 19 enfants d’un Centre de la petite enfance du Québec, pendant huit semaines, à nos ateliers intermodalitaires d’éducation musicale Éveil Mélodys. Nous avons ensuite comparé ces enfants avec un groupe témoin de 11 enfants présentant les mêmes caractéristiques initiales, à savoir d’âge et de milieu socio-économique similaires. Les résultats à nos tests n’ont montré aucune amélioration significative des enfants de notre groupe expérimental, autant pour la musicalité que pour le langage et les fonctions exécutives. À la lumière de notre projet-pilote, il ressort que d’autres études seront nécessaires pour mieux connaître les effets potentiels d’Éveil Mélodys chez les enfants du préscolaire. En ce sens, notre projet-pilote vient nous confirmer la faisabilité d’une recherche semblable à plus grande échelle.
