Recenti studi di bioacustica hanno evidenziato come il canto degli uccelli sia in grado di generare un’atmosfera di benessere e rilassamento nell’uditore, anche se mescolato alle urbane anthroponies. La presenza dell’avifauna in città è tuttavia sempre più rarefatta, a causa dell’agricoltura intensiva, dell’inquinamento acustico ma soprattutto dalla mancanza di spazi verdi adeguati. Nonostante la riconosciuta importanza del ruolo delle comunità ornitiche negli ecosistemi, la loro funzione nelle aree verdi urbane è spesso trascurata. Metropoli come San Francisco, New York, Toronto sono solo alcuni degli ambienti antropici che intersecano rotte migratorie, disturbandole. Il report redatto nel 2018 da BirdLife circa lo stato dei volatili nomadi, registrava un declino di specie ornitiche pari al 40%. Il paper pone a confronto approcci progettuali atti all’inclusione biofila delle popolazioni di uccelli migratori in città, attraverso lo strumento del parco. Tra gli esempi, il Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary di Chicago, un vero e proprio santuario urbano di biodiversità ed il Lingang Bird Airport a Tianjin, una zona umida ecologica sulla rotta migratoria nota come East Asian Australasian Flyway, firmata McGregor Coxall. Casi realizzati in un’ottica di wildlife-dominance, che si inseriscono nella pratica di “Animal-Aided Design”, una metodologia secondo la quale le scelte di progetto di paesaggio sono intimamente connesse ai bisogni faunistici delle specie più a rischio e da essi guidate. Nei casi indagati, la predisposizione di ambienti idonei alla proliferazione animale diviene l’obiettivo principale del progettista, con conseguenti positivi risvolti sull’uomo come secondo beneficiario, innescando processi di coesistenza sociale e biologica.
