Skripsi ini berjudul “Sejarah Pemikiran H. M. Rasjidi: Filsafat Agama (1915-2001 M)” yang meneliti beberapa masalah yakni: (1) Bagaimana biografi H.M. Rasjidi? (2) Bagaimana pemikiran filsafat H.M. Rasjidi? (3) Bagaimana kontribusi pemikiran H.M. Rasjidi terhadap umat Islam di Indonesia? Pendekatan yang digunakan untuk penulisan karya ilmiah ini ialah pendekatan filosofis Sedangkan penyusunannya metode penelitian sejarah; yaitu proses menguji dan menganalisis kesaksian sejarah guna menemukan data yang otentik dan dapat dipercaya untuk merekonstruksi kejadian masa lampau. Sedangkan teori yang digunakan ialah teori kritis menurut Horkheimer. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa; (1) H.M. Rasjidi lahir di Kotagede Yogyakarta pada 20 Mei 1915 dan meninggal pada 30 Januari 2001. Rasjidi pernah menempuh pendidikan filsafat di Kairo Mesir (1931-1938). Dalam karirnya ia pernah menjabat sebagai menteri agama (1946), sekretaris Jenderal Kementerian Agama, sekretaris sekaligus bendahara dalam delegasi Republik ke negara-negara Timur Tengah, anggota delegasi di New Delhi (1947), Dubes RI untuk Republik Islam Pakistan, dosen McGill University, direktur Islamic Centre di Washington, dosen di Universitas Indonesia (1966), selain itu juga Rasjidi mempunyai 23 karya. (2) Pemikiran filsfat Rasjidi berawal dari lingkangan tempat tinggalnya yaitu Islam abangan, dari lingkungan itulah ia merasa harus memurnikan ajaran Islam. Rasjidi mengatakan setiap muslim harus meyakini bahwa semua kebenaran yang timbul sebagai hasil produk manusia adalah nisbi sifatnya. Kebenaran yang bersifat absolut dan pasti hanyalah berasal dari Dzat yang Haq, yaitu Allah SWT. (3) Rasjidi memberikan kontribusi terhadap umat Islam di Indonesia yaitu menjelaskan makna dan membela Islam yang sebenarnya, melawan kristenisasi, dan menjelaskan agar tidak mempercayai apa yang telah di rumuskan oleh manusia.
