Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the applicability of GAME protocol (Goals – Activity – Motor Enrichment) in the motor performance of children with Zika Virus Congenital Syndrome. METHODS: Descriptive observational study, based on a case report. Two children, diagnosed with Zika Virus Congenital Syndrome participated in this study, which were submitted to a program based on GAME protocol (Goals, Activities and Motor Gains), during five weeks. The children were assessed using the Canadian Measurement of Occupational Performance (COPM) and the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM-88), and their mothers recorded frequency and timing of stimulation, as well as their perceptions and feelings emerging on the activities performance, daily. After intervention period, the children were reassessed and the mothers interviewed about the experience. The quantitative data were analyzedby descriptive statistics and qualitative data, through the discourse analysis strategies. RESULTS: The mothers showed good adherence to the program, and children achieved significant changes in occupational and motor performance. CONCLUSIONS: The GAME protocol (Goals – Activity – Motor Enrichment) can be a strategic tool in enhancing motor performance of children with Zika Virus Congenital Syndrome.
