This is one of many short video segments which will be added to the Digital Tipping Point (DTP) archive. This segment features Josh Abraham, a computer science student at Northeastern University, talking about how he became involved in the open source community. He was introduced to Jon Maddog Hall by his step dad, who was a General Manager for the Linux Business Expo, which at that time was co-located with Comdex. He was 14 years old. Over Chinese food, Maddog convinced Josh that he would like the community aspect of open source work. As Josh became more involved in free open source software, he saw that participating in the community was an opportunity for him to meet friends from all over the world (he mentions Canada and Germany in particular). He felt there was a coolness factor in being able to work with Linux.
