Eficácia de um programa de treino cognitivo em idosos institucionalizados

Abstract
A evidência científica tem vindo a demonstrar, que o treino cognitivo (TC) tem um efeito positivo na função cognitiva, na sintomatologia depressiva e nas atividades da vida diária (AVD's). O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a eficácia de um programa de TC ao nível do funcionamento cognitivo, nos sintomas depressivos e nas AVD's, em idosos frequentadores de um centro de dia. Realizou-se um estudo quasi-experimental com um grupo experimental e de controlo, com avaliações pré e pós-programa de TC, em que numa amostra constituída por um total de 26 idosos, 13 indivíduos participaram de 40 sessões de TC e outros 13 indivíduos, apenas efetuaram as avaliações de pré e pós-teste. Como medida de eficácia utilizaram-se as versões portuguesas do Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) e o Barthel Index of Activities of Daily Living. Os resultados demonstraram, após o programa de TC, entre o pré e o pós-teste do grupo experimental, diferenças estatisticamente significativas na linguagem (p=0,05) e na sintomatologia depressiva (p=0,05). Relativamente às AVD's não foram percetíveis alterações. Conclui-se, que o programa de TC produziu melhorias significativas, aconselhando-se assim, a implementação de intervenções cognitivas. Sugerem-se ainda, novos estudos randomizados controlados, com amostras de maior dimensão, com manutenção e follow-up, que reforcem e clarifiquem estes resultados
