Het belang van het immersieonderwijs wordt aangetoond door het aantal studies die daarover uitgevoerd worden in de huidige maatschappij. Hoewel het immersieonderwijs eerst in Canada en in de Verenigde Staten opgestart werd, heeft de moderne immersie progressief meer plaats ingenomen in het opvoedingssysteem van verschillende landen, inclusief België (en vooral Wallonië). In de scriptie wordt eerst een overzicht van de didactische principes gegeven die in de literatuur naar voren worden gebracht. Deze scriptie is daarna gericht op de toepassing van deze methodes en deze in een nieuwe context te analyseren, namelijk de 3de immersiekleuterklassen in Wallonië. Het immersiesysteem wordt pas onlangs in de kleuterklassen ingevoerd. Om deze reden wordt er tot op heden maar weinig onderzoek uitgevoerd op dit systeem. Deze scriptie heeft dus als doel een kwalitatieve analyse te doen van de didactische principes die gebruikt worden om de kleuters aan de T2 (het Nederlands) te laten wennen. Daarvoor werden twee immersiekleuterklassen geobserveerd en opgenomen. De opnames werden vervolgens getranscribeerd om de analyse ervan te vergemakkelijken. Uit dit onderzoek blijkt dat de leraressen van beide kleuterklassen de didactische principes die in de literatuur aangehaald worden, intuïtief toepassen.
