Les infrastructures de distribution d'eau au Nunavik et au Groenland comme éléments des environnements urbains nordiques

Abstract
La forme urbaine des villages nordiques du Nunavik est caractérisée par la linéarité, la discontinuité et l’horizontalité. En contraste, au Groenland, les villes et villages sont verticaux et denses alors que leur forme se juxtapose à la topographie abrupte du territoire. Plusieurs facteurs expliquent cette disparité entre les deux régions inuit. Pour approfondir ces différences, nous établissons des parallèles entre trois types d’infrastructure de distribution d’eau et la forme urbaine des environnements dans lesquels on les retrouve. D’abord, nous nous transportons dans le village groenlandais de Sarfannguit pour étudier le système surnommé « la place centrale ». Ce système collectif est caractérisé par un rapport étroit entre l’utilisateur et l’infrastructure. À l’opposé, l’eau est distribuée par un « service de livraison » dans le village nordique de Kuujjuaq, au Nunavik. Ce système modulaire qui repose sur l’utilisation de camions-citernes uniformise l’espace urbain. Finalement, nous abordons le « réseau technologique » de la ville de Sisimiut au Groenland. Cette infrastructure de distribution est fusionnée à d’autres systèmes et à des artéfacts de nature urbaine. Ce couplage des systèmes techniques à des éléments urbains crée des opportunités d’intervention singulières qui permettent de densifier la ville et d’exploiter la composante verticale du territoire. Par ces analyses qualitatives, un vocabulaire s’articulant autour des caractéristiques formelles des infrastructures de distribution d’eau est développé.
