Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan profil literasi sains siswa di SMP Negeri perkotaan dan pedesaan. Pada wilayah perkotaan, penelitian ini dilakukan di SMP Negeri 3 Sidoarjo sedangkan pada wilayah pedesaan penelitian berada di SMP Negeri 2 Jabon. Subjek penelitian ini masing-masing 2 siswa kelas VIII dari SMP Negeri 3 Sidoarjo dan SMP Negeri 2 Jabon. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes, wawancara, dan observasi. Tes literasi sains ini diadaptasi dari Pan-Canadian Assessment Program (PCAP) tahun 2013 karena siswa berada di kelas VIII. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa di sekolah perkotaan memiliki literasi sains pada indikator pemecahan masalah mencapai level 4 dan 3, indikator penyelidikan ilmiah mencapai level 3 dan 2, dan indikator penalaran ilmiah mencapai level 3. Sementara itu, siswa yang ada di sekolah pedesaan memiliki literasi sains pada level 2 dan 1 pada indikator pemecahan masalah, indikator penyelidikan ilmiah mencapai level 2 dan 1, dan penalaran ilmiah mencapai level 3 dan 2. \n \nKata kunci: literasi sains, sekolah perkotaan, sekolah pedesaan
