Saxon women win AU-hosted ski competition; mens team performs well 1/29/07 SWAIN, NY The Alfred University women's Alpine ski team won the AU Invitational meet, held Saturday and Sunday, Jan 27-28, at Swain Ski Center.The AU women swept the giant slalom and slalom events to take first overall for the weekend.Freshman Lauren Pfeifer (Livonia, NY/Livonia) was the overall individual winner, taking first in both the giant slalom and the slalom.Freshman Heidi Skinner (Weston, VT/Stratton Mountain) was third overall in the individual standings after placing second in the giant slalom and third in the slalom.The AU men's team placed second and fourth, respectively, in the giant slalom and slalom for a third place overall team finish.Leading the way for the Saxons was junior Lincoln Steele (Keene, NH/Keene), second in the giant slalom and sixth in the slalom and fourth overall individually.Sophomore Robbie Ryminski (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) was 10th in the slalom and 13th in the giant slalom, while senior Ben Cantor (Concord, NH/Kimball Union Academy) was 14th in the giant slalom and 16th in the slalom.The AU men's and women's ski teams compete next on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 3-4, at Labrador Mountain, Truxton, NY, in a meet hosted by Ithaca College.
