RESUMED'après Julia Kristeva, l'abjection est un processus inconscient (une coupure) que tout être humain doit opérer pour s'affranchir de la dyade constituée de sa relation avec la mère.Un sujet autonome a dès lors accès à ce que la sémiotique tensive (influencée par la phénoménologie de la perception et le structuralisme) appelle un « champ de présence » à partir duquel il ou elle peut énoncer et entrer dans l'ordre symbolique.Dans la présente thèse, je postule que ce champ de présence est transformé par le passage de la modernité à la postmodernité et que certains auteurs d'avant-garde, comme Michel Butor dans les années soixante, articulent ce passage et modifient le rapport du sujet à l'abject.Mes analyses textuelles portent sur deux ouvrages de Butor extrêmement novateurs : Mobile.Etude pour une représentation des États-Unis (publié en 1962) et 6 810 000 litres d'eau par seconde.Étude stéréophonique (auquel il est souvent fait référence par le titre de sa traduction anglaise, Niagara, qui fut publié en 1965).Mon hypothèse de travail est de dire qu'au niveau énonciatif, Mobile montre des traces d'un champ de présence moderne, instaurant un rapport fortement dysphorique à l'abject et aux limites de ce champ, tandis que Niagara tend plutôt à représenter un champ de présence postmoderne, désamorçant la menace de l'abject par diverses stratégies discursives.Je termine par une réflexion sur le statut de l'abjection en tant que processus instaurateur de subjectivité, le sujet qu'elle épuise dans le contexte de la postmodemité et le nouveau rapport au corps, à la perception et à renonciation qu'elle impose.
