O mastocitoma (MCT) é o tumor cutâneo mais frequente em cães (cerca de 16% a 21% de todos os tumores cutâneos). Atualmente, vários são os parâmetros considerados como indicadores de prognóstico, designadamente o grau histológico, o índice mitótico, o estadio clínico, a dimensão, a recorrência do tumor, a expressão da mutação do gene c-kit, a localização e a expressão da proteína ki-67. Existem evidências em relação ao valor prognóstico dos rácios neutrófilo/linfócito (RNL) e linfócito/monócito (RLM) em cães submetidos a quimioterapia por linfoma. Sendo o MCT uma neoplasia com elevada componente inflamatória, associada ao crescimento tumoral e metastização, neste estudo pretendeu-se avaliar se os rácios leucocitários, RNL e RLM, apresentam correlação com o tempo de sobrevida (TS) e o tempo livre de doença (TLD), no MCT de alto grau, podendo assim ser considerados como indicadores de prognóstico. O presente estudo analisou uma amostra de 104 cães, sendo incluídos aqueles que cumpriram os seguintes critérios: MCT de alto grau, segundo Kiupel, análises sanguíneas (hemograma e análises bioquímicas), sem tratamento anterior, com primeira apresentação do tumor e ecografia abdominal. A idade média ao diagnóstico da população em estudo foi de aproximadamente 9 anos, sendo que predominantemente, estavam afetados machos não castrados (28%) e fêmeas castradas (40%). A raça mais predisposta foi o Labrador Retriever (24%), sendo a localização mais prevalente no tronco/região perineal (48%). Relativamente ao tratamento instituído, 84% dos cães foram submetidos a cirurgia, sendo que em relação ao tratamento médico por quimioterapia, a população total foi submetida a vinblastina, tendo sido também administrado toceranib (16%), masitinib (16%), lomustina (12%) e clorambucilo (4%) como terapia de resgate. Em relação aos rácios, concluiu-se que quanto maior o RNL, menor será o TS, sendo que cães com RNL superior a 3,5 apresentam um tempo de sobrevida menor relativamente aos que têm rácio igual ou inferior a 3,5; e cães com RLM inferior a 4,8 têm um TS menor relativamente aos com RLM igual ou superior a 4,8. Assim sendo, e corroborando a bibliografia existente, parece que o RNL e RLM podem ser considerados como indicadores de prognóstico, relativamente ao TS, sendo que cães com RNL > 3,5 e RLM < 4,8 estão associados a pior prognóstico.
