Cet article se propose de retravailler, discuter et analyser avec dix années de recul le célèbre conte philosophique et manifeste Petite Poucette de Michel Serres, en mettant au jour certaines de ses réceptions et ses connexions avec des débats contemporains vifs. Peut-on démocratiser le savoir par sa numérisation, si oui à quelles conditions, et si non, pourquoi ? Telle est la question qui se niche au cœur de cette démarche. Pour nous y confronter, nous commençons par relire cet essai en lien avec d’autres pans compréhensifs et normatifs choisis de l’œuvre de Serres (1), puis nous le confrontons à trois de ses critiques nous semblant les plus heuristiques (2). Nous mettons ensuite au travail l’articulation des dynamiques de démocratisation et de numérisation qui structure les thèses de Serres sur le Web et les institutions de savoir avec un troisième concept, celui d’individualisation (3). Nous esquissons enfin quelques conséquences pratiques qui nous paraissent pouvoir découler de ladite analyse en termes de politiques publiques à venir.
