La stimulation précoce est un moyen efficace pour promouvoir le développement du jeune enfant ainsi que des habiletés parentales adéquates. Or, le père est absent des services offerts, malgré la reconnaissance de ses contributions au développement de l'enfant. Alors, quelle adéquation entre la formation parentale et les besoins et intérêts des pères? Des groupes de discussion avec des pères et des intervenants ont été réalisés au Québec. L'analyse qualitative révèle que les pères ne se sentent pas inclus dans les programmes existants, car ils sont plus près du style interactif féminin. En fait, ils préfèrent des activités dynamiques dont les retombées sont concrètes et mieux connaître leur enfant et leur rôle parental, mais de façon informelle. Ainsi, un programme ciblant le père devra être actif et dynamique, avoir des buts explicites et offrir des activités où la formation parentale y est intégrée et assurée par des interventions personnalisées.
