Certains écrits scientifiques proposent que les étudiants adaptent volontairement leurs stratégies d'apprentissage en fonction de la tâche d'apprentissage anticipée. D'autres écrits indiquent qu'elles ne varient pas entre contextes d'apprentissage, mais qu'elles sont ancrées sur la motivation et la personnalité de l'étudiant. La présente recherche visait à illustrer l'effet de cinq situations d'enseignement universitaires (Étude de cas, Apprentissage par problème, Apprentissage par projets, Séminaire de lecture et Atelier) sur l'utilisation des stratégies cognitives (Stratégies d'élaboration, organisation et de sélection de l'information principale) par les étudiants. Dans un deuxième temps, la recherche tentait de vérifier l'effet des visées personnelles de formation (Performer mieux en emploi, avoir un bon emploi, se développer personnellement ou suivre le parcours de formation normal) sur les stratégies cognitives. Les résultats indiquent que les cinq situations d'enseignement suscitent l'usage fréquent des trois stratégies cognitives, la stratégie de sélection de l'information principale étant celle utilisée avec plus de fréquence.
