Abstract
Cette thèse examine les facteurs de pérennité des microentreprises créées ou maintenues en activité par les promoteurs accompagnés par les organismes de crédit communautaire, et indique les retombées du crédit communautaire sur le développement territorial. L’interrogation principale qui sous-tend cette recherche est d’identifier les facteurs qui ont favorisé la longévité de ces entreprises. La recherche se concentre sur les territoires du Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean et de Charlevoix, où se déploient deux des organismes de crédit communautaire les plus anciens à oeuvrer en régions québécoises. Le cadre théorique s’articule autour de la théorie de développement territorial à travers trois composantes, à savoir : les dimensions sociale, économique et écologique (ou durable). Le cadre conceptuel s’appuie sur les notions d’ancrage territorial, de capital social, d’amélioration des conditions et de la qualité de vie, d’économie sociale, d’innovation sociale et de systèmes productifs locaux. Nous avons utilisé la méthode qualitative de recherche, et l’analyse empirique a permis d’arrimer la théorie de développement territorial aux concepts pris en compte dans la recherche. Dans cette recherche, nous avons apporté deux contributions dans le domaine d’étude : (1) nous montrons comment les pratiques très particulières du crédit communautaire québécois, avec un ancrage local et des services d’accompagnement de proximité, permettent une certaine pérennité des microentreprises ; (2) nous montrons les liens entre le développement territorial et la mise en oeuvre du crédit communautaire à l’échelle des territoriaux locaux et régionaux. Ce faisant, nous montrons que le crédit communautaire est un outil de développement territorial. This thesis examines the factors that contribute to the sustainability of microbusinesses created or maintained by entrepreneurs with the support of community credit organizations, and documents the impact of community credit on territorial development. The main goal underlying this research is to identify the factors that have favored the longevity of these companies. Research focuses on the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and Charlevoix regions, where we find two of the oldest community credit organizations in the province of Quebec. I apply the theory of territorial development through three components: social, economic and ecological (or sustainable). The conceptual framework is based on the notions of territorial anchoring, social capital, social economy, the improvement of living conditions and quality of life, social innovation, and local production systems. The use of a qualitative research method and the empirical analysis in turn make it possible to link the theory of territorial development to the concepts considered in the research. In this research, I make two contributions to the field: (1) I show how the practices specific to Quebec community credit, with local roots and local support services, enable a certain sustainability of microbusinesses; (2) I show the links between territorial development and the implementation of community credit on a local and regional scale. In doing so, I demonstrate that community credit is a tool for territorial development.
