Ces deux dernières décennies, Marseille et João Pessoa connaissent une augmentation particulièrement importante des résidences fermées, en particulier destinées à la classe moyenne. Face à cette expansion urbaine croissante, cette étude vise à interroger et explorer l'intégration de ces résidences fermées dans la ville, ainsi qu'à évaluer leur impact sur le paysage. En se concentrant sur leurs aspects extérieurs, notamment les dispositifs techniques qui les composent, l'objectif est de rechercher d'éventuelles similitudes entre ces résidences et d'analyser les atmosphères sensibles qu'elles génèrent.Ce travail de recherche préliminaire met en évidence les différences majeures entre les résidences fermées de ces deux villes, qui sont caractérisées par des modes de production urbaine très différents. Partant de l'hypothèse que la présence de ces résidences entraîne une dégradation du paysage, cette recherche, à la démarche exploratoire, vise principalement à témoigner de l'émergence d'une nouvelle forme de ville contemporaine, caractérisée par la fermeture croissante de l'espace urbain.
