Abstract

-- ABSTRACT: The literature attests to a significant increase in psychological distress in several jobs for Quebec workers (Fleury, 2019). Despite the importance placed on psychological health in the workplace and the risks and consequences associated with it, there are very few empirical studies on the subject directly related to the fishing profession. According to the literature, fishing is one of the most dangerous occupations (Affaires de gars, 2015). This study aims to describe and measure the extent and state of the psychological health of fishermen in the Gaspe coast using various indicators related to psychological health, namely: loneliness, interpersonal relations at work and social support. The theoretical model used to define psychological health is that of Gilbert, Dagenais-Desmarais and Savoie (2011). To remedy to the lack of knowledge on the subject and meet the purpose of the research, three research hypotheses were drafted. The first assume, that loneliness is positively correlated with psychological distress, the second, that positive interpersonal relationships at work are positively linked to psychological health, and third, that social support has a link with psychological well-being. Also, to allow a more complete analysis of the phenomenon, the following elements are used for the analysis: the level of loneliness (Peplau et Cutrona, 1980; De Grâce et al.; 1987), the quality of interpersonal relations at work (Sénécal, Vallerand and Vallières, 1992) and social support (Brisson et al., 1988). For this research, a predictive correlational approach was used, given the lack of studies on the subject. Confidential electronic questionnaires were used to obtain the results of this research (number of participants for this study = 64). The results confirm the three hypotheses: the greater the loneliness of the fishermen in the Gaspésie, the greater their psychological distress at work; the psychological well-being at work of Gaspésie fishermen is improved by good relationships, particularly with colleagues; counseling-type support has a positive and significant effect on the psychological well-being at work of fishermen living in the Gaspésie. In addition to adding to the theoretical knowledge on psychological health at work with this population, the study proposed to enhance the social ties of fishermen in the Gaspésie considering its impact on their well-being at work. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en anglais : Fisherman, psychological health at work, Gaspésie, psychological well-being at work, psychological distress at work, loneliness, interpersonal relationship, social support.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
