Le présent mémoire doctoral a pour objectif d'identifier les regroupements naturels de l'attachement et de la personnalité des deux partenaires amoureux, de sorte à offrir une compréhension combinée de ces caractéristiques en lien avec la satisfaction conjugale. Pour ce faire, 355 couples recrutés au Service de consultation de l'École de psychologie de l'Université Laval ont rempli trois questionnaires : le questionnaire sur les expériences amoureuses (ECR-12), l'inventaire NEO en cinq facteurs (NEO-FFI) et l'échelle d'ajustement dyadique (DAS). Les analyses de profils latents indiquent que trois profils de couple se dégagent. Le premier se compose de conjoints craintifs avec un névrosisme élevé (profil Craintif-névrosisme élevé, n = 131 couples), le deuxième regroupe une femme sécure avec une personnalité plus fonctionnelle et un homme craintif avec des traits modérés (profil Mixte-fonctionnel, n = 140 couples) et le troisième inclut une femme craintive avec un névrosisme élevé jumelée à un homme détaché avec des traits plus désirables (profil Insécure-mixte, n = 84 couples). Des ANOVAs à mesures répétées ont ensuite permis de repérer des différences significatives de satisfaction conjugale selon le profil du couple. Les résultats montrent une meilleure satisfaction conjugale chez les couples Mixte-fonctionnels comparativement aux deux autres profils, et chez les couples Insécure-mixtes par rapport au profil Craintif-névrosisme élevé. Cette étude a des retombées intéressantes, d'une part en clinique pour guider les psychologues dans la présentation du bilan diagnostique, et d'autre part en recherche par l'exploration d'une nouvelle approche du lien entre la satisfaction des conjoints et leur profil d'attachement et de personnalité.
