L’alessitimia è un tratto stabile di personalità caratterizzato da difficoltà nell’identificare e nel verbalizzare le emozioni, assenza di consapevolezza delle reazioni somatiche che accompagnano i vissuti, stimolo cognitivo orientato verso la realtà esterna, impoverimento del mondo fantastico e utilizzo di canali somatici come modalità relazionale prevalente. Il metodo: sono state arruolate 124 donne in età postmenopausale e 143 donne in età riproduttiva e sono stati loro somministrati un questionario semistrutturato, il Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) per la valutazione delle disfunzioni sessuali, la Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 items (TAS-20) per l’alessitimia e la Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) quale indicatore di distress psicologico. Inoltre, 40 donne in età postmenopausale e 44 in età riproduttiva sono state sottoposte ad un prelievo venoso per dosaggi ormonali. Risultati: Sia le pazienti postmenopausiche alessitimiche (N=32) che le pazienti giovani alessitimiche (N=15) avevano uno score totale e dei vari campi del FSFI più basso rispetto alle pazienti non alessitimiche. L’analisi di differenti aspetti psicopatologici e di numerose variabili socioculturali ha dimostrato che anche questi incidono sulla sessualità femminile, ma il dato che emerge più interessante ed innovativo è quello dell’associazione tra alessitimia e disfunzioni sessuali femminili.
